SEA TURTLE AND SARDINES IN MOALBOAL, CEBU

It may be snowing hard outside right now, but let me reminisce that day we had an island hopping in Moalboal, Cebu. It was one of the highlights of our Philippines trip. It was an on and off plan, but I am glad that we finally did it. If you visit the Philippines make sure you visit Moalboal. It’s a few hours drive from Cebu city.

How to get there:

We rented a van. It was 6,000 pesos for the round trip. We are five adults and one kid. It was worth it. It was about 3-4 hours of one-way drive. We started early (6 am) to be able to arrive in Kawasan falls and then back to Moalboal. It was only a day trip and we visited Kawasan falls in Badian and Moalboal on that same day. One day is enough if you don’t stay long in Kawasan. We all agreed that we don’t go swimming in Kawasan falls. We just go there for a quick visit, take photos and go back to Moalboal where we spend the rest of the day island hopping.

In Moalboal:

We paid entrance fees 100 pesos/person and a boat 2,500. I didn’t know what to expect. We rode the boat to get to the island where we could see the sea turtle and sardines, and also do snorkeling. It was such a great experience. As soon as we arrived, we did snorkeling. The water was so clear and we saw a lot of fish. It was really nice. Then we moved to the next destination. We stopped by and went down the sea. The guide showed us, and we were so lucky to see the big turtle. the turtle even tried to swam up that even my friend who stayed on the boat saw it. It was so amazing! It was only for a few minutes and then the turtle went away and didn’t come back.

After that, we swam farther and we saw a lot of sardines. It was so “WOW”! We regret and hated why we didn’t buy a GoPro camera. We could have taken a lot of photos under the water. Even take photos swimming with the turtle and sardines. Oh well! We were so disappointed. However, it didn’t matter because the experience was great. My sister and I both said that this experience is surreal and that we are lucky we got to experience it. It will remain forever in our hearts and minds. We had so much fun. I would like to do it again next time, but hopefully with an underwater camera with us.

Have you seen the big turtle and sardines in Moalbaol, Cebu?
